Dr. Gwenyth Lee
Advisory Board Member
Dr. Gwenyth Lee is a global health researcher and infectious disease epidemiologist dedicated to addressing the root causes of child malnutrition and growth faltering. Her work explores the complex interplay between intestinal infections, nutrition, and environmental factors that influence child health in low-resource settings.
Dr. Lee leads pioneering research on Environmental Enteric Dysfunction (EED; a gut condition that impairs nutrient absorption) and its impact on early childhood development. Her projects, including community-based studies in Ecuador and Kenya, integrate epidemiology, microbiome science, and biomarker analysis to identify effective intervention points that can improve child growth and development outcomes.
As a Grassroots Advisory Board member, Dr. Lee provides strategic guidance to align research, program design, and evidence translation with efforts to strengthen health systems and scale equitable, data-driven solutions globally.
Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor at the Rutgers School of Public Health and is a member of the Rutgers Global Health Institute. She holds a PhD in International Health and an MHS in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Tulane University. She is a strong advocate for evidence-based, community-centered approaches to improve the health and well-being of children worldwide.
